Expecting fish, but turtles show up

Expecting fish, but turtles show up

Turtle sunning itself out by our pond. We seem to have our own private "Turtletopia". Our pond is swarming with a variety of turtles. I love watching them and trying to discover more about them. Up to now, I've only rarely seen one outside a pet shop or someone's...

A Harmonious Relationship

A Harmonious Relationship

I get a huge kick out of the quirky behavior of my dog Lucky and her sidekick Ramses.  Both pets are hard luck stories.  Lucky, came to us many years ago. Found abandoned in the woods, emaciated and suffering from a wicked case of mange.  We thought she had no hope...

Back to My Lilian Jackson Braun Addiction

I mentioned in my last post I've changed jobs.  There's been a lot of stress with that.  Not really a bad kind of stress (is there really such a thing as good stress?) but just stress from a stuffed schedule, logistical matters, that kind of thing.  I have a 17 year...

Thanksgiving Traditions

Thanksgiving Traditions

Gardens Remind Me of My Grandfather

Gardens Remind Me of My Grandfather

I remember being amazed at all the vegetables that were growing on what seemed like giant plants. I don’t know how old I was but I must have been pretty young because in my minds’ eye the plants look like something that would give Jack’s beanstalk a run for its money.

Blossoms of Spring Bring Fond Memories

There’s just something magical about Springtime, isn’t there? If you ever stop to consider it, the emergence of blossoms all around us is truly just like magic. Everything was all dead, dark and gray and all at once it seems we’re surrounded by color.
