Our wood marquetry pieces are a great way to tell your own story by highlighting things you love, memorable occasions or keep a special dream top of mind. Our three hot air balloon home decor pieces give you lots of options.
According to Wikipedia, "Marquetry (also spelled as marqueterie; from the French marqueter, to variegate) is the art and craft of applying pieces of veneer to a structure to form decorative patterns or designs." We use this technique often in handcrafting our functional home decor and occasion gifts here at The Gray Shed.
What makes our hot air balloons so special is the option of the shelf stand version that allows the hot air balloons to seem to glow when placed in front of a window that casts natural light behind them. These are one-of-a-kind pieces and we can customize them to particular color schemes if you drop us a message at the time of your order.

The hot air balloon wood marquetry with acrylic accents is crafted from a mix of a variety of hardwood veneer. We use walnut, cherry, maple and occasionally other types of wood and postion the grain to be cut in ways that give the landscape a sense of dimension. The wood is oiled by hand with tung oil resulting in an heirloom quality finish that will keep it looking beautiful for years into the future. An occasional fresh coat of tung oil can be applied every now and then to drastically change their appearance for the better as they age. They will develop a patina that lends to a result of a unique piece.
