Every year when the temperatures start to cool and the leaves begin to change I get a particularly strong urge to dive into the more creative pursuits that appear on my list of favorite hobbies.  I guess it’s rooted in those elementary school days when we were encouraged to break out the crayons, construction paper, glue, tape and scissors to start working on Halloween decorations for the classroom.  It progressed from there to Thanksgiving and then Christmas.

My itch for now is something pretty simple.  I’m looking forward to dragging out a bale or two of straw, a few pots of mums, a pumpkin and a scarecrow to mark the season at the foot of our driveway.  What is on your list for fall/winter hobbies this year?  Are you actively engaged in a hobby you enjoy?  Are you looking for something to do?

It’s fun to feed the birds in the winter months and the birds really appreciate the effort.  You can make this into a really big deal, a full out hobby, if you decide to start making note of the birds arriving at the feeder.  I won’t go to far on this discussion since I’ve written about it before but it’s always the easy choice that leaps to mind.

Craft hobbies are a good choice just now.  With Christmas just around the corner, you can satisfy your need to be creative and maybe even produce something worthy to present as a gift to your favorite friend or relative.  The economy continues to be an issue so this is gaining more momentum.

My plan for sharing here on the blog over the course of this month is to see what I can offer by way of instruction and materials resources that will make it easy for you to create something nice enough to offer as a gift but economical enough that you save money this holiday season.  We’re just rounding the bend into October so there’s a decent amount of time for us to work out the kinks and achieve something noteworthy.
