Blossoms of Spring Bring Fond MemoriesThere’s just something magical about Springtime, isn’t there?  If you ever stop to consider it, the emergence of blossoms all around us is truly just like magic.  Everything was all dead, dark and gray and all at once it seems we’re surrounded by color. For me, and many others I’m sure, Winter has a lot of days where it is very difficult to chase away depressing thoughts and gloomy feelings.  At the beginning of it, I kind of enjoy it, nestling in with a good book, a warm beverage and a crackling fire but as the months wear on I’ve had enough of that and start longing for warm days.

When the seasons change from Winter to Summer and then from Summer into Fall it seems to present times to reflect and a lot of good memories seem to bubble to the surface.  I guess it’s these mornings in the swing out back, sipping either hot tea first thing in the morning or iced tea and lemonade later in the day that offers the time to think and a lot of things outside just remind me of what it was like to be a kid.

One of the things I do here in the attic is help people sell off their family estate’s, on consignment.  I’ve always had a nostalgic nature and I know it’s irrational but I really like to rummage through boxes full of vintage goodness.  When you get right down to it, its all just stuff but somehow I can’t help wondering what life was like 20, 40, 60, or 100 years ago as I turn some of these items over in my hands, clean them up and reflect on where they came from.  Were some of them gifts on special occasions?  Were they merely brought in to solve a problem and make the household run a little more smoothly?  What kind of conversations were taking place around them over the years.  Fun to imagine.

Yes, I know, I’m a bit of a dork 🙂 but I also know I’m not alone and there are some of you out there reading this right now with a fond smile on your face.  You know exactly what I’m talking about, don’t you?  Anyway, with each change in season things are renewed or put to rest.  In the Spring we tend to want to clean things out, freshen things up and look happily to the future.

What do you think about when you have time to reflect?  Remember warm summer nights, picnics in the park, hours and hours on the porch of a favorite relative listening to stories from the old timers?  What makes this time of year special for you?
